Presentation
The Centre des Monuments Nationaux, in partnership with the Saint-Denis Festival, is inviting Dionysian artist Anne Slacik to exhibit her work in the crypt of the Cathedral Basilica of Saint-Denis from 28 May 2026.
The exhibition will feature twelve previously unseen paintings arranged in the crypt's six chapels. These works will resonate with the architecture and light of the stained glass windows, using the format specific to each chapel and offering an immersive and poetic journey for all visitors. The twelve paintings on display will echo the twelve months of the year and offer a contemplative stroll on the theme of time.
Entitled Voix des lumières, the exhibition refers to the opening concert of the Festival, scheduled for 28 May 2026, performed by the Vox Luminis ensemble, and will be part of an artistic reflection on the link between painting, music and poetry.
The project will be deeply rooted in Saint-Denis, where Anne Slacik has lived and worked for 40 years, and pays tribute to her previous exhibitions in the city, notably at the Paul Éluard museum (2012, 2019) and the HCE gallery (2018, 2023).
Visitors will be able to discover these unique works throughout the Festival and in the months that follow, accompanied by a programme of meetings and exchanges with the artist and her partners, promoting a rich artistic experience accessible to all.
Who is Anne Slacik?
Anne Slacik was born in Narbonne in 1959 and lives and works in Saint-Denis and the Gard region of France. Since 1981, she has had numerous solo exhibitions in museums and art centres in France, including Gennevilliers, Nîmes, Strasbourg, Gap, Melun, Montauban, Charleville-Mézières, Périgueux, Sète and Paris.
In 2012, the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Saint-Denis devoted a major exhibition to him, with the publication of a monograph accompanied by texts by Bernard Noël, followed by other major exhibitions in the years that followed, notably at the Bibliothèque Forney, the Musée Paul Valéry in Sète and the Musée de Collioure.
Her work, represented by several galleries in France and Belgium, combines large-scale paintings, works on paper and painted books, exploring the dialogue between colour, painting, books and poetry. She has collaborated with many poets and created nearly 400 published books and over 130 hand-painted books.
Winner of the Fondation Fénéon painting prize in 1991, Anne Slacik continues to focus on colour and poetry, developing a unique artistic universe in which painting interacts with text and light.
