The final sprint of the Olympic Flame to the Cathedral Basilica of Saint-Denis
On Friday 26 July, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint-Denis hosted the Torch Relay for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
After the city of Carcassonne, Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey, the Cité Internationale de la Langue Française and the Arc de Triomphe, the Flame's journey ended at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint-Denis just a few hours before the grand Opening Ceremony!
At the basilica, three torchbearers took it in turns to carry the flame around the forecourt and inside the monument: journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, actress Laetitia Casta and world star Pharrell Williams! The latter took the flame to the heights of the basilica, to the symbolic site of the future north spire, where reconstruction work will begin in 2025. Find out more about the reconstruction of the spire
After this historic relay, the artist Slimane gave an exceptional live symphonic performance from the forecourt of Saint-Denis cathedral basilica. He was accompanied by the urban choir Sankofa Unit and conducted by conductor Zahia Ziouani and her Divertimento orchestra.
