Presentation

Since 1846, the cathedral basilica of Saint-Denis has been without its spire, dismantled by Viollet-le-Duc following violent storms. The association Suivez la flèche (Follow the Spire) is now leading the project to reassemble the north bell tower and the spire. The Centre des monuments nationaux (CM N) has also developed a specific tour offer for the Cathedral Basilica of Saint-Denis, dedicated to the rediscovery of its historical and architectural heritage.

Follow the arrow and the CMN offers a two-part experience:

  • It begins with a one-hour tour to discover the specific architectural features of this building, the founder of the Gothic movement. The Cathedral Basilica of Saint-Denis is a key monument in European history and a place of remembrance for monarchical France. Forty-three kings and thirty-two queens were buried in this exceptional Gothic building (12th-13th centuries).
  • The visit is followed by an introductory workshop in stone sculpture, lasting around an hour and a half, run by mediators from the association Suivez la flèche. During these workshops, participants will be able to create their own sculptures and take them home with them. The tools needed to create the sculpture will be provided on site.

Rediscover the cathedral basilica and become a stonemason for an introductory session! An experience to share with the whole family.
