In French or in foreign languages, the guided tour is organised by the Plaine Commune Tourist Office and led by a lecturer.
A key monument in the history of France, the cathedral basilica is a major work of Gothic architecture. Under the impetus of Abbot Suger in the 12th century, the abbey church was rebuilt using one of the first rib vaults in the ambulatory. In the 13th century, King Saint-Louis made it the necropolis of the kings of France, a tradition that continued until the reign of Louis XV, leaving us with an exceptional collection of funerary sculptures. You can admire the restoration that has returned the western façade to its 1840 appearance.
